PUBLIC ART: Silicon Forest

“Silicon Forest”

Stainless steel, painted aluminum, photovoltaic panels, LEDs 26’ x 9’ x 8’ each

2003

Six twenty-two to twenty-four foot stainless steel and aluminum tree forms are topped by a flower-like array of solar panels. Photovoltaic charge, stored in “virtual tree stumps, (as seating elements) illuminates hundreds of LED bulbs by night- “silicon-based photsynthesis”. A "virtual campfire" flickers at ground level surrounded by seating "stumps"… Tri-Met Interstate MAX, Rose Quarter Transit Center, Portland, OR.
